Duurzaamheid
Wij hebben duurzaamheid op een gedeelde eerste plaats, daarnaast staat klanttevredenheid. Wij vinden het net zo belangrijk dat je tevreden bent over je aankoop en onze service, als wij het belangrijk vinden om ons in te zetten in de blijvende verduurzaming van ons bedrijf. En volgens ons gaan die twee hand in hand. Nee, versterken zij elkaar juist. Een duurzame mede waarmee wij meer herstellen dan gebruiken van de natuur.
Lokaal
Om die reden produceren wij een duurzame mede, van lokale honing en met lokale imkers. Dit doen wij om onze ecologische voetafdruk klein te houden. Eén van onze voorwaarde is dat wij alleen met Nederlandse imkers werken binnen een straal van 30 km vanaf Rhenen. Mocht je daarom in deze straal een bij zien vliegen, bestaat de kans groot dat die de honing haalt voor onze mede. Dit geldt voor ons hele brouwproces. Om van de honing mede te maken, en van deze mede van de bekende zoete smaak te voorzien (Cunera-Glow Mede en Kaneel Mede). Geen kunstmatige geur- of zoetstoffen bij ons, alleen pure lokale imkerhoning!
Biologisch
Wij gebruiken biologische kruiden en specerijen voor onze speciale mede (Cunera-Glow Mede en Kaneel Mede). Deze biologische kruiden en specerijen worden geproduceerd zonder het gebruik van synthetische pesticiden, meststoffen en/of andere chemische middelen. Hierdoor bevatten ze minder resten van deze stoffen, die anders wel vaak worden aangetroffen. Ze zijn daardoor ook beter voor het milieu, want de impact van bovengenoemde middelen is veel kleiner. Als laatste voordeel vinden wij dat hiermee de lokale economieën aldaar mede worden gestimuleerd.
Kortom, voor ons hebben deze biologische kruiden en specerijen een grote meerwaarde ten opzichte van de conventionele mogelijkheden. Dat maakt het voor ons veel aantrekkelijker om hiermee te werken in onze producten.
Recycling
Wij gebruiken verder alleen materialen die gerecycled zijn of kunnen worden. Onze voornaamste reden hiertoe is het verminderen van afval. Het proces van recycling vermindert de hoeveelheid afval die (onnodig) gemaakt wordt. Zo wordt de druk op de natuurlijke hulpbronnen verminderd. Het glas van onze flessen is van gerecycled glas. Je kan onze flessen tevens weer inleveren bij StreekWaar, of je gebruikt het verder als een mooi karaf. Mocht je het weg willen gooien, gooi het dan in de glasbak, dan kan het weer gerecycled worden.
Onze verzenddozen en opvulmateriaal zijn van gerecycled papier/karton en kunnen ook weer na gebruik ook weer worden gerecycled. Het opvulmateriaal wat wij gebruiken wordt verzorgd door een lokale zorginstelling. Hier worden mensen met een verstandelijke en/of lichamelijke beperking geholpen aan werk.
Het maken van nieuwe producten van gerecycled materiaal, is namelijk efficiënter en goedkoper dan het maken van producten uit nieuwe grondstoffen. En om het je extra makkelijk te maken, kan je nadat je je mede uit de dozen hebt gehaald, de rest gewoon bij de papierbak gooien. Zo helpen wij samen bij de vermindering van CO2-uitstoot.
Als laatste, maar voor ons eigenlijk ook het belangrijkste, wij vermijden in alles onnodig wegwerpplastic. Wegwerpplastic heeft voor ons zoveel negatieve effecten op het milieu dat wij er simpelweg niet mee willen werken. Zo’n plasticzegeltje rondom een gemiddelde wijnfles? Blijft nog eeuwenlang in het milieu en breekt zeer langzaam af. En al die tijd brengt het schade toe aan de oceanen, rivieren en bossen. Het is belangrijk dat we ons bewust zijn van deze negatieve effecten en ons inzetten om het gebruik van plastic te verminderen en te zoeken naar alternatieve materialen.
Voor ons is het alternatief voor dit wegwerp-verzegeling; zegelwas. Zegelwas bestaat uit een mengsel van bijenwas, hars en pigmenten. Hiervoor gebruiken wij ook een gedeelte bijenwas van onze imkers. Je zou in theorie deze was kunnen hergebruiken bij je kaarsen.

Sustainability
We have sustainability in shared first place, next to that is customer satisfaction. We think it is just as important that you are satisfied with your purchase and our service as we think it is important to commit ourselves to the permanent sustainability of our company. And we think the two go hand in hand. No, they reinforce each other. A sustainable mead with which we recover more than using nature.
Local
That is why we produce a sustainable mead, from local honey and with local beekeepers. We do this to keep our ecological footprint small. One of our conditions is that we only work with Dutch beekeepers within a radius of 30 km from Rhenen. Therefore, if you see a bee flying in this radius, there is a good chance that it will get the honey for our mead. This applies to our entire brewing process. To make mead from honey, and to provide this mead with the well-known sweet taste (Cunera-Glow Mead and Cinnamon Mead). No artificial fragrances or sweeteners with us, only pure local beekeeper honey!
Biological
We use organic herbs and spices for our special mead (Cunera-Glow Mead and Cinnamon Mead). These organic herbs and spices are produced without the use of synthetic pesticides, fertilizers and/or other chemicals. As a result, they contain fewer residues of these substances, which are otherwise often found. They are therefore also better for the environment, because the impact of the above resources is much smaller. As a final advantage, we believe that this will help to stimulate the local economies there.
In short, for us these organic herbs and spices have great added value compared to the conventional options. That makes it much more attractive for us to work with this in our products.
Recycling
We also only use materials that have been or can be recycled. Our main reason for this is to reduce waste. The recycling process reduces the amount of waste that is (unnecessarily) created. This reduces the pressure on natural resources. The glass of our bottles is made of recycled glass. You can also return our bottles to StreekWaar, or you can use it as a nice carafe. If you want to throw it away, please throw it in the glass bank, then it can be recycled again.
Our shipping boxes and filling material are made of recycled paper/cardboard and can also be recycled again after use. The filling material we use is provided by a local healthcare institution. Here people with a mental and/or physical disability are helped to find work.Making new products from recycled material is more efficient and cheaper than making products from new raw materials. And to make it extra easy for you, after you've taken your mead out of the boxes, you can just throw the rest in the paper bin. Together we help to reduce CO2 emissions.
Finally, but actually also the most important for us, we avoid unnecessary disposable plastic in everything. Disposable plastic has so many negative effects on the environment for us that we simply do not want to work with it. Example why do we use a plastic seal around an average wine bottle? Remains in the environment for centuries and breaks down very slowly. And all the while, it's wreaking havoc on the oceans, rivers, and forests. It is important that we are aware of these negative effects and are committed to reducing the use of plastic and looking for alternative materials.
For us, the alternative to this is disposable seals; sealing wax. Sealing wax consists of a mixture of beeswax, resin and pigments. For this we also use some beeswax from our beekeepers. You could theoretically reuse this wax on your candles.
